The French phrase laissez faire literally means “allow to do,” with the idea being “let people do as they choose. Throughout history, the allure of freedom and self-determination has captivated us, drawing us to romanticize eras like the Old West, the Golden Age of Piracy, and modern concepts like Bitcoin. These times symbolize the universal desire to live authentically, unbound by oppression. Whether it's the open road of Route 66, Street Graffiti, Hawaiian Dreamin or the principles in the U.S. Constitution, these ideals reflect humanity's enduring quest for independence, autonomy, and the right to forge one's own path.
And that is what we try and emulate with Lazay Fair. These movements, like the often overly romantized stages of the golden age of Piracy, the hard, brutal and independant lifestyle of the Old West, the birth of the United States, Punkrock, Cypher Punks (Bitcoin, Crypto currency) and the potential promise of freedom with blockchain, along with the no worries and carefree nature of Island life, all symbolize this very nature.
We are at a crucial point in our existance where the very freedom we always gravitate towards throughout history, is once again under threat. The timeless idea of Freedom or "Lazay Fair" is that inalienable right we all covet and should wear on our sleeves.
